Lakedra: what kind of fish is it, benefits for the human body

Yellowtail lakedra Seriola quinqueradiata belongs to the horse mackerel family. This fish, which is of interest to sports fishing enthusiasts, can reach impressive sizes – up to one and a half meters and weighing about 40 kg. However, the average weight of commercially caught fish is about 1 kg, and their body length varies between 30–40 cm. During migrations in search of food, yellowtails often join large schools of anchovies, sardines and willows. In winter, these fish go to the southern borders of their habitat to survive the cold period.

The Japanese lakedra has a special appearance – its body is elongated and resembles a torpedo with a pointed cone-shaped head. She has two fins. The back of the lakedra has a lead-blue color, which becomes lighter towards the belly. Through the eyes along the body there are yellow narrow stripes. The skin of the fish is smooth and covered with small silvery scales that reflect light. The fins are yellowish in color.

Lakedra lives in the surface layers of water and is often found off the coast of East Asia. It is mined on a large scale in Korea, Japan, Taiwan and China. In Russia, lakedra is found in the south of the Kuril Islands, Sakhalin and in the Primorsky Territory.

Lacedar lives most of all in the East China Sea, from where young individuals go to the island of Hokkaido, where they spend their first years of life. In the summer they migrate further north to Russian waters and return back in the winter.

Lacedars hunt in schools, surrounding a school of fish and squeezing it into a cauldron. At this time, you can observe violent movement on the surface of the water and fish constantly jumping out of it. Lacedars feed on a variety of foods, swallowing everything that comes their way – fish fry, smaller fish, caviar, mollusks, etc.
