Fish in Lent

Lent precedes one of the main events of the year for Christians around the world – Easter. It is customary to refuse any food of animal origin – meat, fish, eggs, dairy products.

If you look at the nutrition calendar, you can see many periods during which you are allowed to drink wine, eat caviar, and more. Let us explain when they eat fish during Lent in 2024. You can only cook it twice.

❗Important: you are allowed to eat fish only twice during the entire fast –
April 7th for Annunciation
April 28, Palm Sunday

And on Lazarus Saturday, April 27, you can serve fish caviar to the table.

What kind of fish do they eat during Lent❓

To prepare fish dishes, you can use seafood that is high in nutrients and low in fat. For example, pollock, cod, haddock, hake, perch or pike perch are quite suitable for a Lenten menu.
Fatty types should be avoided: salmon, chum salmon, sturgeon or pink salmon do not fit the description of a Lenten diet. Dishes made from them promote gluttony, which goes against the purpose of fasting.
